Often without consciously realising it, we use shame to motivate ourselves into making changes. We shame ourselves as a form of inspiration to fuel us into becoming who we wish we were or an effort to prove something. Shame is the should voice and it might have been the one you listened to, back when you made new year resolutions.
The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships. -T. K. V. Desikashar. Isn’t that lovely? I first read this quote 20 years ago.
The reason I’ve loved yoga all my life, is because it’s taken me that long to really let the practice liberate me from the human condition of making decisions from a place of shame and regret. It's from that place we often make new year resolutions, which doesn't make for a stable foundation. Shame and regret are big blocks to living a life of meaning and connection.
2023 might be the year you choose to love yourself enough to really let yoga in. Let it open you up, soothe you and challenge you.
